Sustainable Food Security is a dynamic social enterprise

Our Mandate

Food is a right. Sustainable Food Security is a social enterprise with a simple mandate: More food on more plates. We work with partners across Canada to remove barriers preventing people from accessing the nutritious food they need. In this era of high grocery prices and supply chain interruptions, more communities are taking food security into their own hands.
Our Mandate

Our Partners

We work with partners across Canada to implement local food production systems and related educational programs. Local food production is essential for a reliable, accessible food supply. Relying on imported food increases costs and environmental impacts while denying communities health and economic benefits.

Our partners include:

Municipalities and band councils
Schools and universities
For-profit businesses
Food banks, shelters and non-profits
Lodges and camps
Individual food producers

Partnerships matter most

We believe in strong relationships with our partners. This means both sides are comfortable in communicating their needs as we work toward our shared goal.

Sustainable Food Security follows a three-step strategy in all of our partnerships:

Together, we determine project needs, a budget, and timelines for completion.
Together, we determine how the project will be funded, whether by our partners, a grant, or a combination.
Together, we finalize a project schedule that works for all partners.
Partnerships matter most

Meet Raygan

Raygan Solotki is our founder and lead executive officer. She is a leading voice in the food security movement, featured in documentaries, on CBC and APTN, and in the pages of major publications such as The Globe and Mail.

Growing up in a low-income home in BC, Ray experienced the burden of not knowing where her next meal would come from. After earning a science degree from the University of Northern British Columbia, she tried out several different careers before being drawn to food security in 2015.

Since then, Ray has coordinated 30-plus food security projects across the country – and found her life’s work in the process.

“I am inspired by the communities and organizations working to enhance food access,” she says. “My team and I are honoured to be part of the food security revolution.”
