A Growing Dome greenhouse, a Planta greenhouse, outdoor gardens, and a food forest will turn Tsq̓éscen̓ First Nation, British Columbia, into a regional leader in food production – with room for expansion. The project began with community engagement workshops in early 2024 and continued through with a spring build and summer of incredible food production.
The team consisted of the 3 SFS founders, a contractor, and 3 Tsq̓éscen̓ First Nation staff members. One, Dorian, had recently completed a Horticulture Diploma at TRU; April had completed a carpentry program; and with the addition of Jojo they created an incredible team to tackle the first year of local food production focused on food security.
Over the span of 12 weeks, the team worked together to build the greenhouses, the outdoor gardens and even try to turn the large field adjacent into a large farm. The Eliza Archie School students were a part of weekly workshops, and became very engaged with what was happening -as well as looking forward to future opportunities.
