Rooted Shores Farm: From Vision to Working Farm
Land that had sat unused for nearly 30 years became the starting point for Rooted Shores Farm—a community agriculture project on Snaw-Naw-As territory in Lantzville, BC. Across 13 acres, a vision for local food security began taking shape through growing spaces, greenhouses, animal care, and opportunities for hands-on learning.
Working with Snaw-Naw-As and the Nanoose Economic Development Corporation, Sustainable Food Security helped bring that vision into practice. Our involvement extended into farm planning, operational development, training resources, and the day-to-day work of establishing a functioning farm.
The transformation was about growing food and building the capacity to keep growing it. Rooted Shores created space for people to develop practical skills, explore agricultural employment, and contribute to a stronger local food system.
From underused land to a working community farm, Rooted Shores shows what can take shape when community vision is supported by planning, practical knowledge, and sustained effort.
